May 15, 2026 recheck
The SPIRITS of St. Petersburg first investigated the location in 2008 (https://spiritsofstpete.com/archived-investigations/2008-investigations/chattaways-business/), with subsequent checks through 2011. Now that the spot is up for sale/new management, we wanted to recheck to see what has changed. There is a subsequent article for the Gabber to come, and it will also be a chapter in Supernatural Saint Petersburg and Paranormal Pinellas Vol. 3.
Though messy, these are the general notes from the interviews during the investigation:
Greg: Has had several paranormal experiences. He talks about Lake Lure Inn “a very spirit filled healing experience. I remember looking at a picture, it was so clear, it was a picture of the inn and there was this huge cloud that looked like it was hugging it”
We have been here 56 years as caretakers. My Mom is the owner and I’m not, and I like the reference better.
We love what we are and we have food and good will for everyone. I never let a hungry person go; I’ve had a platform to use and speak out. We believe in goodwill for all nations.
Open through August 3, details to come out concerning the Chattaway. Stay tuned. We may still be here and we hope that it stays as it is, regardless of what happens.
Has not necessarily had paranormal experiences here. I always feel like there is a good spirit here. I always give it and the building thanks. I have had a lot of sounds that happen when no one is around. Sounds like someone is in the building but it’s just me.
I’ve had more experiences in other buildings, but this building has always been kind to me.
Had a nephew 10 -11 – 2014, Donnie, who was shot at the overpass on US 19. He died at 2 a.m.; it is a cold case but we know that the truth will come to light. We want the truth. I was very close to him; he was 17 and 10 days before he turned 18
Family is Dakota, Santee Reservation; where John Trudel’s parents are from and my. Dad is Native American. Parents met through the Navy for biological dad but my father who raised me was Narive American.
When I was 24 my brother passed and he came to visit me. He very clearly was a visit. He floated to me and he hugged me. I was in Melbourne, just out of the Navy. He told me “you’re going to love it. The other side is the truth.” I feel my brother’s spirit with me all the time. .
The Lund family was the first one here. Helen was the mother, Everette was her son, who Jill married, and all three are the folks who maintained the Chattaway. “My Mom is probably the longest one”.
The tea room is the most active area. Helen Lund bought the land in 1951. Her ashes were just returned to the Chattaway recently in 2025. One of her relatives brought the ashes back to us, though we are not sure why. We may want to release the ashes somewhere near the property.
There will be a Juneteenth Tea Party; the 26th of June Sister Nancy will be performing (singer)
The singer sang “Brandy” and “King of the Road” (song that I am named for and the favorite song of the father of another SPIRITS member who was remembering the anniversary of her mother’s death on the day we were there.”
Ann said that she saw “white” when taling to Greg (a pure white energy – a radiating white energy).
Five years working at the site. “I just feel that the Indian ancestry sense in here.” I feel the protection from the trees, and there are areas where the chimes are that just make me feel so centered. The greenery and the plants even seem to move through here with their own power.”
There is a positive energy center here. You ca have all the trouble sin the world by y ou come in here and you can just relax.

Mark Hogg (musician)
“Greg and another man were closing up. They heard what sounded like shattering glass in the dining room. They looked around and found nothing, and they left right away”. David Montes; Manager (and maker of awesome mac and cheese bites). Feels a spiritual presence here, too. A spirit of protection.
“People don’t even fight here.” Greg said.
Greg worked here with Juanita Mincy, a cook who was here. She was here with us in her 80s and was a cook for us for 40 years.
Here is the urn with the ashes of the original founder/owner, Helen Lund.
