VFW Post 39

Notes:

Oct. 13, 2025

Chris:

Two days ago:  Two people together heard a thump. It sounded like footsteps.  In the bar area.  Running across the floor.

Upstairs:  Hearing steps upstairs.

One person has been here a while.

First night working by himself:  I had closed everything and turned off the TVs, facing the back room, counting cash.  I heard banging in the back room (kitchen).  I thought it was the air system or someone outside.  I thought it was on the back wall back there.  It kept happening for so long that I knew it was not music.  There was banging all over the place.  Stairs, ceiling, back room.  There is a door that comes in from the back alley.  April 2025.

Then I heard footsteps in the pool table room.  I started to freak out, and I walked around and looked.  I heard footsteps coming from the other room.  They stopped in front of me.

And then we have heavy banquet chairs, and I had put them away that night, and they started to rattle, shake, and it sounded like they were going to slide across the room.

It didn’t feel malicious.  It was getting attention.  I have had other experiences, but nothing that direct.  There were a couple of times when I heard banging on the ceiling when I was the only one in here.  Nothing is operational, on, or functional.

Sitting at the bar counting cash, everything is off, and there is nothing to create noise or output.  I heard footsteps coming toward me and then knocked at the bar, right along the bar.  I just turned and said, “Guys, come on”.

Back room with the previous canteen manager, and it sounded like someone was in the bar with the drink mixes clinking.  I heard a barstool move.  I checked the door, and it was locked.  There was one night when I had closed everything up.  I was getting ready to take the trash out, and I was trying to turn that T off.  I put the remote in the bucket, and the TV turned on.  It happened two more times.  I told them to put something good on.  When I came back, the cable had been turned on.  I turned off the TV again, but there was a bang on the ceiling right above me.  I told them they could watch it after I leave.

Ice machines do make noise sometimes.  It happens right after you use the ice machine.

The energy in the back room, it’s heavy back there.  The further you go you can feel something.

Boots on the ground.  We are more restrictive on the membership, but you have to serve overseas during different wars.

“I called one VFW who told me that I should join the auxiliary.  I was a 21-year veteran.  I came here, VFW 39, and the bartender, Patrick, was so welcoming that I immediately joined.”  Deidra Broderick

Air Force and Army, served in Kuwait, Bahrain, and Iraq.

Chris Shineman.  Army.  Working on your graduate degree in WWII studies.

Cindy Stanford.

Carissa: Upstairs on the men’s side, while we were standing in the room, it felt like someone walked up behind us.  I felt like I needed to get out of the way; I felt like I was going to fall through the floor.  In the bar on the second floor, I had really bad tendonitis in my left hand.  Pressure in the right ear.  Pressure in the grand hall, hand in the bar.  In the grand hall, Nancy was feeling an amputee man, missing a leg, and while she was talking to him, we both felt very sad.  He caught the SLS camera.  He really likes Nancy.  In the ladies’ bathroom, I felt “off energy”.

I heard a male voice say “where are you at?” Grand Hall area.  Where the stick figure was and Nancy channeled.

First floor:  In the game area, I felt sharp pain on my left temple like I hit my head.  In the arcade, I felt bouncy and energetic, while everyone else felt drained.  I felt that from the start.

Marina:  Before we even started, I had head pressure in the bar area, heaviness in the main hall Blackburn lounge), I also had slight nervous jitters in the bar.  Upstairs on the ladies’ side, the room to the left, I was having trouble catching my breath in that room.  In front of the door that says “no exit,” I felt a heaviness.  That is the area where Nancy felt that there was a portal, and  Carissa felt like she was going to fall.  The door goes out to the roof.  Something in that room touched Carissa’s hair.  In the grand hall, as I was walking down the aisle way, a chair to my right squeaked as if someone was standing up or sitting down. It was also the room with the SLS figure. It was the room where Nancy felt that it was a male energy amputee (or lost his leg) in Vietnam and when he came back, he committed suicide.  In the bar area, when I walked out, I was hit by a strong cigar or cigarette smoke.  In that same area, I had a pain in the back of my head.  In the downstairs room, library, Carissa heard a whisper behind her at the table, but the door and the window to the side street was there.   Could it be a noise outside?  On the right side of the counter, her right leg went out twice.  When I got back downstairs to the room where the bathroom is, my lower back was hurting, and then in the Blackburn lounge, my back hurt.  Nancy also felt something on the right side of her face.  Maybe a palsy or something like that.

Kristi:  Residual energy spending time in here, but I’m not manifesting anything like the others.  I am picking up on residual energy.  The ladies room upstairs is “a little weird”.  It reminds me of being in an attic. In the grand hall I felt strange.  I think that the whole building has its own pocket of energy.  I did try for an EVP in the room with the door that goes to the roof.  The SPIRITS voices in the room.  I tried for an EVP in the ladies room on the first floor.  On the first floor I feel very draggy.

Nancy:  They have been poking at Chris since they got here.

There is an office in the back, and I heard a woman’s voice.  I could hear you all talking, and it sounded like a deep female voice around the 50s.  Marina was getting blonde hair and white dress.clothing, looking over dark blue water.  As we walked out, she asked if Coast Guard folk wear white.  Then she lost her balance.

Cindy Stanford:  There is a doll with a porcelain face and the eyes will open by themselves. The TVs are on and she sees them on the security camera when no one is in the building.”

She caught an orb video in the lounge area.

Commander for three 3 years. Served in the air force; I was a surgery tech and training manager.

I don’t like being in the office, even though it is my office.

I won’t go upstairs if I can avoid it.  We turned off all of the power upstairs three times, but when we left the lights were back on.  We decided to leave the lights on.

There is supposed to be the spirit of a little girl.  There is a doll of unknown origin who has painted eyes.  People are sometimes able to see the eyes “open”.

People also report a man in a leisure suit.  No idea who he is.

I transferred from another VFW to here, the one near Kane’s and US 19.  I transferred to VFW 30 four years ago and I’ve been the commander.  I was the first female commander at the other post.

I think that people need to respect the fact that there are veterans.  I have people that come in and they don’t know what VFW means; it means that every person who is a member here fought in a foreign war.”

“Lorene M. Tate was the first person from St. Petersburg High who went to World War I who died.  The post is named after him.”

There is so much history in these buildings.

I hear stuff in here, but I just ignore it because when I first started to come in, I would tell them that “I’m just here to fix the building so please don’t bother me.  I think they know that I have nothing but good intentions for this building.  I respect them and they respect me.”

I hear stuff and I feel stuff;

Tinnitus goes off upstairs.  Felt stabbing pains in the back.
